Designation Mainframe Operations Engineer
Job Requirement
• Provide 7x24x365 support
• Have an operations understanding of IMS, CICS and DB2.
• Perform Emergency Pack Maintenance and Database Restores in order to resolve abend situations.
• Strong writing, speaking and listening skills
• Ability to work well with others in a team environment
Job Responsibilities:
• Ability to logon to CA7
• Ability to logon to TSO
• Expert level understanding of NEP, Prose, and APCDOC
• Expert level understanding of CA7 including the use of commands to perform:
– batch job inquiry
– cancel batch jobs
– demand batch jobs into the system
– restart batch jobs that are in an abended state
– rerun batch jobs
• Ability to increase batch job performances
alter batch job
• Interface with various MVS group representatives when and where needed. (i.e. software, storage management, automation, and Database Administrators).
Ability to:
– investigate job sysouts
– resolve batch abends when instructed.
• Assist programming staff in batch job abend resolution.
• Satisfy NSRRs (Non Standard Run Requests) on all systems on a
daily basis per audit requirements (verification of requestor).
• Provide feedback to Master Schedulers, Customer Service
Representatives (CSR’s), and customers on improper NEP and
Callout instructions found while trying to resolve abends and making
contacts.
• Initiate callouts to resolve production work related problems.
• Document calls received and actions taken on abended jobs.
• Respond to GIRS tickets, and create GIRS when needed.
• Prepare Morning Report regarding late jobs and provide reasons
why they are late.
• Monitor IMS, CICS, and DB2 using Omegaview. Understand when issues arise and how to respond.
• Restart / Cancel IMS transactions and Cancel DB2 threads or jobs
• On weekends take down IMS production systems and execute Software updates.
• Manage production control using CA-7, TSO, MVS, IMS, and other mainframe software.
• Monitor CA-7 Scheduling package to assure job applications run successfully and on time.
Certifications
• Extensive knowledge of commands, screen manipulation, and overall internals of the product.
• Proficiency of TSO, JES2, JES3, Omegaview, and IMS software packages are needed to perform everyday functions of the position.
