A leading Company in Plant and Equipment Maintenance requires an experienced Planning Engineer.
Job Description: Welding Inspector
Degree/Certification in Welding Engineering or Metallurgy Engineering with At least 6 years work experience in Welding Engineering or a welding related field. Experience with the ASME Section IX Welding Code and/or AWS D1.1, AWS D1.6 Structural Welding Codes strongly preferred.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Follow all AWS/ASME/API and Engineering standards.
2. Initiate / preparation of Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and Welding Material test samples.
3. Formalize and release WPS and Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) from completed and approved test results.
4. Set up and maintain master WPS and PQR files in accordance with ASME Section IX requirements.
5. Set up and maintain record of welder or welding operator qualification tests for each welder’s qualification file in accordance with ASME Section IX and customer contract requirements.
6. Prepare and issue/maintain operator qualification matrix at least every six months or whenever sufficient changes occur warranting reissuance, in accordance with ASME Section IX requirements
7. Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints, and complex pre and post heating requirements.
8. Assist in Engineering, Quality and Estimating departments with any technical issues regarding welding and fabricability requirements for projects
9. Apply knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys to develop welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to problems involving fabrication of metals
10. Develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures, improve existing or develop new welding equipment, develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures
11. Identify and evaluate latest welding equipment, materials and techniques for possible application to shop welding practices or production processes
13. Investigate new developments in the field of welding to evaluate their possible application to improve or remedy existing welding processes
14. Provide welding engineering support to Engineering, Quality and Manufacturing to fabricate equipment in accordance with all applicable code and customer requirements

KEY COMPETENCIES:
• Understanding of mechanical and structural components as it relates to welding engineering assessments and recommendations.
• Ability to work independently as well as in team
• Effectively handle many concurrent projects.
• Knowledge and practical experience of common welding processes such as SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW and SAW.
• Experience in welding carbon and low alloy steels, stainless steels and nickel-based alloys.
• Fundamental knowledge in NDE; ability to categorize & quantify weld defects.
• Knowledge of quality systems.
• NDE experience
